Colby L. Schmidt, Esq. has served as the Deputy Director and Assistant Reporter for the Maryland Supreme Court of Maryland’s Standing Committee on the Practice of Rules and Procedure since December 2018. In this capacity, Mr. Schmidt engages in extensive research resulting in the drafting of Maryland Rules, and answers inquiries raised by judges, attorneys, and citizens concerning issues that touch upon the Maryland Rules.
Prior to serving as the Deputy Reporter, Mr. Schmidt worked in private practice, as an Assistant County Attorney for the Anne Arundel County Office of Law, and as an Assistant Attorney General in the Courts and Judicial Affairs Division of the Office of the Attorney General of Maryland. Those positions each afforded Mr. Schmidt the opportunity to immerse himself in the Maryland Rules of Procedure.
A graduate of St. John’s College and the University of Baltimore School of Law, Mr. Schmidt currently serves as an adjunct professor at the School of Law, where he instructs students on interviewing, negotiations, and counseling and legal research and writing.
