Moderator and Coordinator, From Cradle to (In)Carceration: The Plight of Black Women Oppressed by the Criminal Justice System

Corliss M. Wilson is a first-year doctoral student in the Applied Sociology and Social Justice program at Morgan State University. Before this, she completed a master’s in Ethics, Peace, and Human Rights from American University and a bachelor's in Political Science from Oakwood University. She is an emerging socio-legal scholar and human rights advocate. Her research focuses on political economic theory and human rights issues that impact the African diasporic community in the U.S. and the Global South at large. In this expertise, she is focused on combining the theoretical frameworks found in socio-legal studies with the advocacy work necessary to address the complex needs of this community. Given this background, her interest in amplifying the voices of Black women experiencing incarceration utilizes a feminist-centered approach to illuminate these women in their full humanity.
