Panelist, A New Alternative to Guardianship: Supported Decision-Making

Megan Rusciano (she/her) is a Co-Managing Attorney of the Developmental Disabilities, Health Care, and Victims of Crime Act Team at Disability Rights Maryland (DRM), Maryland’s federally-designated Protection & Advocacy Agency for people with disabilities. Megan assists clients with accessing home and community based Medicaid services; reasonable accommodations; and alternatives to guardianship, including supported decision-making. Megan chairs Maryland’s Cross-Disability Supported Decision-Making Coalition. Prior to joining DRM in 2017, she worked as a client advocate at The Arc of Northern Virginia and at Nidus Personal Planning and Resource Centre in British Columbia, Canada where she assisted in providing public legal education about British Columbia’s supported decision-making law, the Representative Agreement Act. She received JDs in both the US and Canada. Megan is a member of the Elder & Disability Law Section Council, the Judiciary’s Guardianship and Vulnerable Adult Workgroup, and the Judiciary’s Guardianship Attorney Training Faculty.
