Panelist, Growing Leadership from Within: How to Attract, Retain, and Value Team Members

Robin Murphy has spent her career promoting and protecting the legal and human rights of people living at or near the poverty level. She currently serves as the Executive Director of Disability Rights Maryland, (DRM), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and Maryland’s designated Protection & Advocacy agency (formerly known as “Maryland Disability Law Center”). DRM is federally mandated to advance the civil rights of people with disabilities. Prior to joining DRM, four years ago, Ms. Murphy held the position of Chief Counsel for Civil Programs at the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) where she provided legal advice to NLADA’s Civil Legal Services Division and the executive directors of non-profit legal services programs throughout the country. Before joining NLADA, she held the position of supervisory attorney at the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR), Metro Division, enforcing federal civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability, race, color, national origin, sex and age in education programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. In addition, she has spent more than 25 years practicing at nonprofit legal advocacy and government organizations throughout the country, primarily protecting and promoting the rights of individuals with disabilities, children and survivors of domestic violence. Ms. Murphy received her Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law and is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and Connecticut.
