Panelist, Empowering the Survivor: How Legal and Social Services Advocates Can Work Together to Support Immigrant Survivors of Crime

Stephen Brown earned his B.A. from James Madison University in 2007 and his J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2010. Currently the managing attorney for HIAS’s U.S. Legal Services based in Silver Spring, Maryland, he has spent his career providing legal assistance to low-income immigrants in the Washington, DC area, in seeking humanitarian- and family-based immigration relief. In that time, he has collaborated frequently with social services providers to meet the needs of survivors of crime and trauma. Prior to joining HIAS, Stephen was managing attorney at U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants from 2016 to 2019, and was a staff and supervising attorney at Ayuda from 2011 to 2016
