Session 2: 11:15 AM to 12:30 PM | Room 301
This panel will cover how to navigate collateral medical/legal issues with clients. The panel will examine the adequacy of medical services in detention facilities, how to advocate for ICE custody release of medically vulnerable populations, and how COVID has impacted these practices. The conversation will draw from the experience of its panelists in representing detained clients facing various medical and mental health conditions while detained. The conversation will include ways to navigate these issues and triage them with other community-based organizations. The panel will also cover how the pandemic shaped detention work and highlighted long-standing health injustices inherent in detention and immigration law.
