1. Where did you grow up?
Columbia, Maryland
2. What brought you to Maryland/Baltimore?
I didn't spend much time in Baltimore growing up, but once I started to venture more into the city as an adult, I fell in love. Now I live in Baltimore City, and I can't imagine living anywhere else.
3. Where did you go to school and what was your major/focus?
I started at CCBC as a single mom and full-time waitress. I received my AA and transferred to Goucher College on a full scholarship. I majored in English Literature with a concentration in Secondary Education. I taught middle school English before attending law school. For my J.D., I attended University of Baltimore School of Law.
4. What are your interests/hobbies outside of PBRC?
I love to be outside. I love to travel, read, write, and play pickleball. Above all else, I love spending time with my granddaughter, Naomi.
5. How did you get involved with PBRC?
I wanted a career that would align with my passion for social justice. When I read the job posting for PBRC, it felt like an invitation to come home.
6. What were you doing prior to working here?
I was a Trusts and Estates attorney.
7. What do you do at PBRC?
I am the Volunteer Manager.
8. What is your proudest accomplishment?
I won a national writing contest with a short story I wrote celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community during Pride Month several years ago.
9. What motivates you?
Knowing that my four adult daughters are proud of who I am and what I do is all the motivation I need.
10. What has been your most meaningful experience with PBRC?
My very first week with PBRC I attended several events that celebrated and supported the volunteers we have at PBRC—from Academy graduates to Board members. It was truly inspiring to meet and interact with so many folks who give their time and energy to help our communities that need it the most.
11. What developments within PBRC have you found most exciting or promising during your time?
PBRC continues to grow as a true resource for Marylanders who are struggling. It's the day-to-day operations that I find most exciting because it's in those moments when differences are made.
12. What do you appreciate about PBRC’s mission?
Literally everything.
13. What do you find unique or distinctive about PBRC within Maryland’s legal landscape?
The only time PBRC discusses money is when it's about how to access more grants in order to reach more people. The mission of PBRC is to make a difference—not a profit.
14. What message would you give to people thinking about volunteering with PBRC?
Do it. I've never met someone who has volunteered and thought, "I really wish I hadn't done that." You won't be sorry. I've seen the difference our volunteers make in real time with real clients. It's the most rewarding thing you'll ever do.
