CAP Hotline Volunteer Training: Housing and Consumer Law Primer
Volunteer with the CAP Hotline – Be a Lifeline for Marylanders in Crisis
Answer the Call. Make a difference.
Every day, Marylanders facing eviction or overwhelming debt turn to the Courtroom Advocacy Project (CAP) Hotline for help. As a volunteer, you’ll be the first point of contact—offering guidance, legal information, and referrals that can make all the difference. Whether you're a law student, paralegal, or attorney, your time and compassion can help someone stay housed or navigate a difficult financial situation. With just one volunteer shift that you can take from the comfort of your home or office, you can provide critical support and empower clients to take their next steps with confidence.

Training Requirement
Before volunteering, you must complete our in-depth training:
CAP Hotline Volunteer Training: Housing and Consumer Law Primer
Training Highlights
This training will provide an overview of the housing and consumer issues facing low-income individuals and families in Maryland, the court processes they encounter related to evictions and affidavit judgment collection actions and an overview of the applicable law. The training will prepare volunteers to assist hotline callers by providing guidance and referrals. The training will also equip volunteers with the knowledge and awareness they need to get the most out of courtroom observations.
Commitment
Participants can attend/view the training free in exchange for their commitment to volunteer at one CAP Hotline shift within one year.
The CAP Hotline operates Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Hotline shifts are typically 3 hours and can be done from the comfort of your home or office using the Zoom app.
