Panelist, Closing the Justice Gap through Medical-Legal Partnerships
Gabriela Ines Sevilla, is an Equal Justice Works Fellow sponsored by Pfizer, Inc. at Homeless Persons Representation Project. She joined in September 2019 to lead the DREAM (Disability Representation Education Advocacy Medical-Legal) Partnership where she represents Health Care for the Homeless clients in public benefits cases. She leverages her lived experience with housing insecurity and childhood reliance on public benefit programs to drive and support her work.
While in law school Gabriela represented clients with housing conditions issues in D.C. Superior Court through the Fair Housing Clinic. She also interned at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Homeless Action Center, and Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless. She was awarded Clinical Law Student of the year in 2018, Howard University School of Law Student of the Year, Howard University Graduate Student of the Year and HUSLer of the year in 2019. Her commitment to ending homelessness has been featured in the Washington Post, Street Sense, Univision, and Telemundo. Before law school she served as an Americorps member with Great Oaks Charter School in Newark, New Jersey as an educator to English Language Learners.
