Panelist, How To Prevent Family Separation and Keep Them Out of Court
Natasha Khalfani has been with the Office of the Public Defender since May 2020. She started as an attorney in the Parental Defense Division and continues to serve in that capacity as the attorney of the Better Together Pre- Petition Early Advocacy Program Attorney. She also serves as the acting Assistant Director of the Government Relations Division. Natasha started her career representing children at Maryland Legal Aid in 2008. She continued there for four years until she opened her own family law practice where she litigated divorce, custody, child support, CINA and TPR cases, adoption, and adult guardianship cases throughout the state of Maryland. In 2020 Natasha made the decision to focus her practice on representing poor and marginalized people in court and in government. So, she shut down her practice and joined the OPD. While at the OPD Natasha facilitated the legislative work of the Parental Defense Division before joining the statewide Government Relations team. Natasha is married and has three children.
