If you don’t attend, the immigration judge may issue a removal order without giving you a chance to explain your case or present evidence—even if you had a valid reason for missing court.
Be Aware of ICE Arrests at Immigration Court
Sometimes, immigration officers (ICE) arrest people at or near courthouse buildings, even when those individuals are attending their hearings. While this doesn’t happen in every case, it’s important to be prepared. You may want to consider filing a motion to have your hearing using the internet using these instructions.
If You’re a Parent, Make a Safety Plan
If you have children, consider creating a safety plan in case something unexpected happens—like detention or arrest. Identify someone you trust who can care for your children if needed. Planning ahead protects your family.
