This training, offered to attorneys and Spanish-speaking law students as part of the Maryland Immigrant Legal Assistance Project (MILAP), will you teach about how you can help vulnerable immigrant children and families learn the law and preserve their claims while they look for an attorney. The training will cover immigration benefits and defenses to deportation (asylum, special immigrant juvenile status, U visas, family petitions and more), best practices for interviewing, tips for working with an interpreter, and providing pro se assistance as a nonprofit volunteer. Participants must volunteer at 2 MILAP clinics within 1 year of registering.
