Panelist, The State of the School to Prison Pipeline in Maryland
Alyssa Fieo as practiced education law for over 25 years. She began her public interest career at the Education Law Center in Philadelphia, working on class action litigation. Alyssa served for nearly 20 years as a managing attorney and director of legal advocacy at Disability Rights Maryland (DRM). Alyssa’s substantive legal expertise at DRM focused on issues related to special education, school discipline, limited English proficiency, and juvenile justice. In 2022, Alyssa joined the Maryland Office of the Public Defender as an education attorney working with the Juvenile Protection Division. She works on collateral education issues impacting OPD’s school-aged clients to ensure that their educational rights are protected and to address systemic barriers to education services.
