Laura Lopez McNulty was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia. She immigrated to the United States as a teenager and graduated from high school in Missouri in 2007. From a young age, Laura had a clear vision of her calling to community work. Her aspiration to become a community interpreter persisted for many years.
It was during the rise of the immigrant rights movement around 2010 that Laura experienced a pivotal moment of self-realization. She recognized that her community needed more from her than just interpretation. Laura felt compelled to step up and serve her community and herself in any way she could. It was then that she discovered her passion for immigration social justice and legal preparation. Since that moment, Laura's academic journey has been dedicated to growing and developing herself into the best advocate for the immigrant community she can be. She recently graduated with her Associate's degree and is now poised to pursue a bachelor's in government and politics, with hopes of attending the University of Maryland in the fall.
Laura's commitment to serving the immigrant community in Maryland has been evident through her volunteer work as an interpreter and facilitator for the Maryland Immigrant Legal Assistance Project (MILAP) of PBRC since 2021. This experience has provided her with invaluable resources and tools to better support immigrants in Maryland, so she joined PBRC as one of MILAP's full-time Project Paralegals.
Passionate about growth, authentic connections, family, and living fully present in every moment, Laura approaches life with a dedication to making a meaningful impact on those around her.
