EVERY 1st, 2nd, & 3rd FRIDAY OF THE MONTH

District courts across the state continue to enter affidavit judgments against low-income consumers in thousands of cases where improper debt collection and consumer debt buying tactics occur. Volunteer attorneys can provide critical legal help to Maryland consumers by participating in courthouse clinics on the first, second, and third Fridays of the month in Upper Marlboro. At the Consumer Protection Project (CPP)‘s courthouse clinics, attorneys will provide advice and limited scope representation to consumer defendants, negotiate payment plans and dismissals, and help consumers file notices of intention to defend. Volunteers may also accept cases from either clinic for full representation.

Consumers with the assistance of a volunteer have, on average, a 95% success rate in avoiding a money judgment.

FREE training, malpractice insurance coverage, mentoring, and support are provided to all Project volunteers.

Interested in volunteering? Contact Sydney Dunning, Esq., Director of the Courtroom Advocacy Project, at sdunning@probonomd.org OR 443-703-3049.
