Representing Asylum-Seekers – 2021 Update

October 1, 2021 @ 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Friday, October 1, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM | View the training via:

  • LIVE webinar on Zoom; or
  • WEBCAST: View on your device at a place and time convenient to you. You will be emailed access instructions by mid-October when the webcast is ready to view.

Asylum-seekers are 14 times more likely to be able to stay in the U.S. when they have a lawyer representing them. Learn how you can represent a family seeking safety from an all-star cast. This training will cover the nuts and bolts of representing someone seeking asylum before Maryland’s immigration court, including changes to the asylum process of the Biden administration.

Speakers include:

  • Daniella Prieshoff, Kids in Need of Defense
  • Jennifer Bibby-Gerth, Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of Washington
  • Lance Conklin, Solo Practitioner
  • Karen Grisez, Fried Frank
  • Ret. Immigration Judge Lisa Dornell

Participating pro bono lawyers (licensed to practice and in good standing in at least one state) must agree to accept at least one asylum pro bono case from a Maryland Immigrant Legal Assistance Project (MILAP) Partner within one year of training (note, depending upon the process that applies to the pro bono case, volunteer lawyers will need to either attend an interview and/or hearing in either the Arlington Asylum Office and/or the Baltimore Immigration Court).

Co-Sponsored by:
