Ariel Simms, Esq. is the President and CEO of RespectAbility, a nonprofit that advocates for equity and opportunity for people with disabilities while fighting stigmas. Simms, a queer and multiple-disabled leader, brings a unique perspective and lifelong commitment to advocating for marginalized communities.

Simms has worked tirelessly to promote inclusion and access in various areas such as healthcare, education, employment, and self-advocacy. Their career started as a mental health counselor in Michigan, where they served people at society’s margins. This experience motivated Simms to pursue a legal education, giving them the tools to inform public policy and advocate for human rights.

Ariel holds various roles related to disability advocacy. In addition to working with RespectAbility, Ariel is also a Scholar in Residence with the Philosophy & Religion Department of American University, where they teach courses on Human Rights & Disability and Disability Law and Ethics. Ariel is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Disability Rights Bar Association and holds a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School.
Simms is an experienced speaker and educator who engages audiences with informative talks on various topics, including disability rights, social justice, and intersectionality.
