Panelist, From Cradle to (In)Carceration: The Plight of Black Women Oppressed by the Criminal Justice System
Samella A. Carryl, Esq. is a graduate of the illustrious Oakwood University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Black World Studies. She then attended Georgetown University Law Center, where her studies and work experiences were centered around systemic racism, criminal justice, and international human rights. Upon receiving her juris doctorate, Samella returned to her home state of New York to serve as a Juvenile Rights lawyer at The Legal Aid Society, one of the largest public defender services in the nation. Samella brings expertise in both the child welfare and juvenile delinquency systems of family court and is excited to offer insight on how Black women are impacted by the criminal system from cradle to (in)carceration.
