Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland to Host 24th Annual Partners for Justice Conference
Partners for Justice Conference
Date: Thursday, March 25, 2023
Time: 8:15 AM – 3:30 PM
Location: Baltimore City Convention Center, 1 West Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD 21201
BALTIMORE, MD – On Thursday, May 25, 2023, advocates for access to justice from across the region will convene at the Baltimore Convention Center for the 24th annual Partners for Justice Conference. Hosted by the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland (PBRC), Maryland’s thought leader on pro bono, the event will bring together a record 340 legal services program staff, members of the public and private bar, the judiciary, human services agencies, and elected officials standing up for the rights of the underserved in our community.
The in-person conference will feature cutting-edge instruction and discussion from experts and leaders at the vanguard of the legal services community. Panels such as Linguistic Bias in the Justice System, the State of the School to Prison Pipeline in Maryland, the Future of LegalTech: How Black Lawyers are Revolutionizing the Industry, and Observations from the Bench on Housing and Access to Counsel for Evictions will provide insightful analysis and practical guidance for advocates to apply directly to their work helping the underrepresented. The ACLU of Maryland’s Executive Director, Dana Vickers Shelley, a lifelong advocate for justice through her distinguished career in the public and private sectors, will be providing a keynote address.
Panels will feature the latest information on the recently-concluded legislative session, including changes to access to counsel funding, rental housing, the home tax sale process, criminal record expungements and other successful legislative initiatives. With increased funding and support for Access to Counsel in Evictions (ACE), and the move to support right to counsel in the broader legal services context, PBRC is eager to seize this opportunity to engage our community in broadscale strategic planning for access to legal services for all marginalized populations.
