Representing Tenants in Prince George’s County Rent Court
District Court for Prince George's County - Hyattsville 4990 Rhode Island Avenue, Hyattsville, MD, United StatesThe training, co-sponsored by Community Legal Services of Prince George’s County (CLS), will cover Landlord-Tenant rules, cases, and practical advice, preparing attorneys to represent tenants in Failure to Pay Rent cases. Attendees must agree to fulfill two (2) units of volunteering within one year of training. One “unit of volunteering” is EITHER participating at one (1) CLS Rent Court Clinic OR taking one (1) landlord-tenant case from CLS.
Drafting Motions to Reopen Immigration Court Proceedings

Charles Street, Baltimore, MD, United StatesAttendees of this Maryland Immigrant Legal Assistance Project (MILAP) training will leave with the ability to draft a motion to reopen at immigration court proceedings with a focus on reopening cases for asylum seekers. This training is a great fit for attorneys with strong legal writing and drafting skills who want to assist immigrants in removal proceedings. Participating attorneys must agree to write at least one motion to reopen within 1 year of training.

Handling Tax Sale Cases: Practice Tips & Perspectives from the Magistrate’s Office

This training, offered as part of PBRC's Home Preservation Project, is free to attorneys who agree to attend one Baltimore City tax sale prevention clinic and handle one pro bono case within one year of training. (Note: attorneys who are new to tax sale prevention and need access to the basic training webcast can do so, free of additional pro bono commitments.)

Representing Asylum-Seekers: Model Hearing Edition
University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law 500 W Baltimore St, Baltimore, MD, United StatesThe AM session will cover how to represent children and families applying for asylum while in removal proceedings (including asylum law, special protections for children, filling out the application, and appearing in court). The PM session will include a presentation from the Court and a series of model hearings with Assistant Chief Immigration Judge Jack Weil. Pro bono attorneys (licensed to practice and in good standing in at least one state) must agree to accept at least one asylum pro bono case from a Maryland Immigrant Legal Assistance Project (MILAP) Partner within one year of training (note, depending upon the process that applies to the pro bono case, volunteer attorneys will need to either attend an interview and/or hearing in either the Arlington Asylum Office and/or the Baltimore Immigration Court).
